Form 8621 service

Form 8621 preparation and reporting help

Form 8621 is used for several PFIC reporting and election situations. The right treatment depends on the holding, the available issuer information, the taxpayer’s history, and what happened during the year. This service begins by organizing those facts instead of assuming one method fits every fund.

Is this your situation?

Start by defining the problem.

  • You were told a foreign fund may require Form 8621.
  • You received a distribution or sold a possible PFIC holding.
  • You have a PFIC Annual Information Statement and want help with QEF reporting.
  • You are considering or maintaining a mark-to-market election for marketable stock.

Before you inquire

Service questions.

01Is one Form 8621 enough for all my foreign funds?

Generally, a separate Form 8621 is filed for each PFIC. The exact filing set depends on ownership and reporting facts.

02Does every foreign investment require Form 8621?

No. PFIC status and Form 8621 filing requirements are fact-specific. A foreign investment should not be labeled a PFIC solely because it is held outside the United States.

03What if I do not have complete cost history?

Mention that in the inquiry. Missing records can materially affect what can be prepared and may require reconstruction or a different scope.
